Author Chaos
September Notes from North Carolina

I don’t know about you, but here in North Carolina the weather is still clinging to summer—hot, dry, and determined. Even so, the promise of cooler days is just around the corner. Pumpkin spice has officially re‑entered the chat, and the trees are starting to show their true colors. They’re beautiful in that quiet, early‑autumn way.
Life in boxes, however, is not beautiful. I spent three hours the other day looking for my can opener. Three. Hours. Not cool. But the new house is coming along, and December’s final move cannot get here fast enough.
And because I know you’re wondering—Jake is handling the chaos like a champ. He even has a girlfriend now. Amelia is a sweet eight‑month‑old pup who wrestles, zooms, and generally runs his energy out. She’s been the highlight of his week… and mine.
Do You Enjoy Reading Blogs?
Blogs are still a thing, right? I think they are. As you can see, I’ve turned my newsletters into posts, and I’ve added a handful of author‑life posts too. If you enjoy behind‑the‑scenes writing talk, indie author insights, or just want to keep up with the journey, you can explore the sections—Writing Mentor, Author Life, Indie Author, and Newsletter—right here:
Audiobook News (The Part You’re Really Here For)
Rebecca is officially live with the Trial by Starlight audiobook production. She goes live most afternoons—usually somewhere between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern—and it’s such a surreal experience watching the world of the book come to life in real time. If you want to see the magic as it happens, hop onto TikTok and follow along.
And here’s the honest part: audiobooks are an expensive endeavor for indie authors. I’m not going to be broke or starving, but producing this one does eat into my savings and makes future books a little harder to fund. If you’d like to support the project, even a small amount helps keep the series moving forward.
I’m also considering preselling the audiobook so early supporters can reserve their copy ahead of release. If that’s something you’d be interested in, let me know — it might be the perfect way to make this sustainable.
